Galveston County Sheriff is Gean Leonard. The Sheriff’s office has the two following main divisions: The Citizen Sheriff's Academy and The Galveston County Auto Crimes Task Force (ACTF). The sessions for Citizen Sheriff's Academy Alumni Association are form of a 38-hour block of instruction designed to give its graduates a working knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office structure and function. Participants work with the deputies throughout the agency including a ride-a-long program. The minimum required age to participate in this program is 17 years.

In March 1993, the Galveston County Auto Crimes Task Force was founded with an initial Grant from the Texas Automobile Theft Prevention Authority. Crime Prevention Programs play a large part in ACTF's efforts. Providing speakers to civic groups and instructors to law enforcement, manning mobile displays of theft deterrent devices, or manning booths at the State Fair of Texas begins the education process. Additionally, ACTF provides analytical and investigative assistance to all Galveston County Agencies regarding major criminal occurrences. Formal complaints are handled in writing.
