Galveston County is home to the following 8 Libraries: Friendswood Public Library, Genevieve Miller Hitchcock Public Library, Helen Hall Library, La Marque Public Library, Mae S Bruce Library, Mares Memorial Library, Moore Memorial Public Library, and Rosenberg Library.
Rosenberg Library is comprised of Administration, Adult Services, Children’s, Circulation, Computer Services, Maintenance, Museum, Special Collections, Tech. Services, and Director/Trustees. Founded in 1871 and opened its doors in 1904. The Rosenberg Library is the oldest public library in Texas in continuous operation. Since its incorporation the institution has been governed by a board of twenty trustees In addition to developing special collections and circulating over 250,000 books annually, the library offers art and historical exhibits, lectures, film series, computer classes, and meeting facilities for over 100 groups a year.
The Santa Fe Community Library opened its doors in September of 1975. The library collection of mostly donated books was housed in 400 sq. ft. of an old WWII Army barracks and manned by volunteers. Currently, the Santa Fe Community Library is grounded on a 6400 sq. ft. brick structure, on three acres and was presented to the City of Santa Fe. Services include the following: Books, Typewriter, Summer Reading Program, 16 mm Projector, Slide Projector, Story time, Cassette Player, Internet Tutoring, Magazines, Reference CDs, Computers for Word Processing, Tours, Interlibrary Loans, Internet Access, IRS Forms and Publications, and Videos.
